The Napa THRIVES team will follow up with anyone willing to commit to sustainable action and provide the resources and connections to take the first steps.
The Napa THRIVES team is committed to follow up with anyone willing to explore sustainable actions and provide the resources and connections to take the first steps. This could be as simple as signing up for MCE "Deep Green" 100% renewable energy, or as ambitious as achieving Napa Green Vineyard and Winery certification. We are here to provide support, whether these are individual or whole company commitments.
I am committed to learning, tinkering, and sharing the practical approaches to incorporating biochar and compost into vineyard soils in order to sequester carbon and improve soil fertility. Working with other vineyard teams as part of Napa THRIVES presents an opportunity to share my experience and to learn from others with similar goals.
Demeine Estates is committed to inspire thoughtful discussions to advance social change and progress, building resilience, fortitude, and confidence within our communities. It is our goal always to create a team environment that honors different perspectives, ideas, and everyone feels valued. We aim to set the example with our peers, and provide access to ensure fairness, respect, and equal opportunity.
I look forward to discussing IPM and the challenges that that lie ahead for the farmers of Napa Valley. I’m committed to being involved in positive discussions of our path forward using sustainable farming practices.
I and my team at Bay Grape are committed to asking producers, importers and distributors about their waste prevention programs. We are committed to consistently asking for less packaging, lighter weight packaging, and alternative packaging; we also advocate for bottle exchange and re-use programs. And we pledge to support first and foremost those producers actively working to combat climate change.
We have signed the LOI with Conscious Container to buy glass for upcoming bottlings, and we are also looking into more sustainable labels and labelling choices.
I commit to using 100% renewable MCE Deep Green energy in my home.
Our bottles are 650g, not super heavy but I think we can go lighter. I commit to exploring realistic options for that. I also think... what if our Stags Leap District AVA got together to have an initial conversation about using a single, lighter mold for our wines. Think of the multiple implications if that became a reality? There's more, including installing EV chargers on our property, that we commit to. But this is a good start, I hope!
At this time Massican doesn't own a winery or vineyard, but that will not stop me from doing everything in my power to support all of our efforts toward a common good. And that starts with a single step, a large one, to pursue business certification as a B Corp. That action starts now.
I've successfully pushed for my company to become a Porto Protocol signatory. We look forward to becoming an official member and sharing our sustainability practices such as waste water management which allows us to reclaim up to 95% of our water from keg cleaning. I've put a down payment on an electric car and committed to start tracking my travel not just based on finances, but also carbon emissions. I've become actively involved with Reusable SF and Climate Reality Project Bay Area Chapter. Lastly, I look forward to continuing to help more wineries and On-Premise accounts reduce the amount of unnecessary glass (#1 source of carbon emissions) in the supply chain through offering wine on tap in Free Flow reusable steel kegs. Gustavo Avina (Viticulture Director) and I commit to push our vineyards to the limits of dry farming with the goal of enhancing our sustainability as a company and driving wine quality as well. With Tod's guidance we expect that our goals will be realized in our vineyard redevelopment projects.
I Martin Reyes founder of RWG hereby commit to a minimum of 10 hours a week to being a climate and resilience activist to the wine trade working with likeminded organizations to accelerate the pace and scope of sustainable wine growing leadership
Being approached to be a mentor for Napa Thrives is truly an honor for me. I am looking forward to sharing some of my knowledge and experiences along the way in maximizing energy efficiency, installing solar and EV with the Round Pond Estate Team to continue this journey of sustainability.
I am committed to work with Pine Ridge Vineyards and Trefethen Family Vineyards and spend a few hours with each of their vineyard teams to set a goal and initial plan to transition an area of vineyard to dry farming.
As the mentor for Waste Reduction & Green purchasing, I am committed to dedicating time to work with Raymond Vineyard and TRUE Zero Waste in an ongoing manner to learn from each other and to continue pushing the envelope when it comes to landfill diversion. I am also committed to sharing insights and experiences with anyone who is inspired to learn more about TRUE Zero Waste or general waste reduction strategies for their businesses.
Napa Thrives workshops offer a shared space to evaluate both existing knowledge and new ideas. It strengthens the community’s momentum to share ways we can all take action to preserve and protect our Napa Life and our global environment.

After the Water workshop, I committed to evaluating whether our irrigation applications were true. So yesterday I signed up to have the Crocker vineyard tested for pressure and volume by the expert Green Vineyard team. Did I mention that this is a free test? Looking forward to knowing our DU!
A second workshop got me thinking if the humidity in our barrel cellar was off, as empty barrels had recently required too much re-hydration! Turns out that our system had malfunctioned. Another way to reduce our water use. Did I mention that our winery build is relatively new? Another actionable item!
Finally, Bill McKibben's marquee speech has inspired me to search for a financial institution that does not lend to oil and gas but supports our planet's health! I pledge to follow through with this.

As part of my support for the Social Equity Pillar of Sustainability, I commit to mentoring two more wine students in the next year, and to publishing our academic research paper on Black Wine Entrepreneurs with colleague, Dr. Monique Bell.
I commit to working on a community service to facilitate the recycling of barrel packaging & finding ways to reuse it within the local industry.
I commit to doing volunteer work to strengthen the community of organizations driving towards some form of social equity in their mission. This is a complex subject, one that will ask me to grow and learn. However, I commit to the matter, and I look forward to working with organizations like Farmworkers Foundation, Napa Community Foundation, Napa Green, Napa Vintners, Ahivoy, and of course support the work that Wine Unify started in 2020. More to come.
Before working in wine, I spent the last decade working in real estate development and management. Now that I work in wine, I commit to using my knowledge and network to bring affordable living to industry employees.
